Position: Electrical CAD Draughtsperson
Job Description
ESP is looking for a highly motivated and suitably experienced electrical CAD Draughtsperson to join our Generation, Transmission and Distribution Engineering team. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and self-driven individual to grow with a dynamic team and to work on challenging and innovative projects both locally and internationally.
As an Electrical CAD Draughtsperson, you will be responsible for preparing detailed technical design drawings, layouts and plans for renewable power plants (e.g. solar PV, wind) and utility electrical transmission and distribution projects. You will work closely with our team of highly experienced design engineers to ensure that all specifications, designs and drawings adhere to relevant standards and requirements.
The key elements of the job description are as follows:
- Develop detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings, designs and models for electrical engineering designs such as renewable plants, transmission and distribution substations including primary and secondary (protection and control) plant;
- Drawings include but are not limited to MV and HV Substation General Arrangements, Section Views, Layouts, Substation Electric Diagrams, Protection Control and Metering schematics, Network Architectures.
- Renewable plant layout and design drawings including solar PV, wind and BESS;
- Work closely and collaborate with design engineers and other relevant stakeholders to understand and implement project requirements;
- Review and interpret technical specifications to produce accurate electrical drawings and modify drawings to accommodate design changes and updates;
- Ensure drawings comply with relevant standards and client requirements; and
- Conduct quality checks on drawings for accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain systematic records of design files and revisions.

Minimum requirements
- Diploma or Certificate in draughting, engineering or related field;
- At least 5 years of recent experience as an electrical draughtsperson;
- Experience and proficiency in MicroStation, AutoCAD and Bentley systems is essential;
- Familiarity and experience on ESKOM transmission designs and drawings will be an advantage;
- Sound understanding of electrical engineering design, construction and draughting principles and the ability to interpret and work with complex technical drawings and specifications;
- Ability to multi-task and manage several tasks and coordinate with multiple team members simultaneously; and
- Ability to work independently in a dynamic team-based environment.
Location
Johannesburg or Cape Town (candidate to state preference)
